The Churdan Public Library was a busy place in December.
The kick-off of the library’s “Expanding Our World” fundraiser for the library building fund was Dec. 14.
Churdan Lions Club member John Hunt escorted Santa to the library Dec. 14 and Dec. 21. Santa stayed and helped with the Lions Club Christmas drawing. At the conclusion of the Dec. 21 drawing, winners of donated gift boxes were announced. Winners included Bill Gebhart, Kristin Hoyle, Jeff Lamoureux, Janice Tilley, Jesse Sanders, Sydney Koch, Ron Brooks, Ann Gemberling and Sue Wind. Billy Sammons won the Nook e-reader.
Regular preschool story times were held Wednesdays with a special Christmas party Dec. 18. On Dec. 9, the library hosted a candy making class for students in graders 5-12. The library sponsored magician Rick Brammer at the Paton-Churdan school Dec. 10, and on Dec. 11 the library hosted an after-school party for children of all ages. Children were given an opportunity to check out books before being treated to a variety of reindeer games.
The Paton-Churdan preschool visited the library Dec. 18 and entertained guests with many Christmas carols and rhymes. Later that afternoon, with help from the P-C National Honor Society chapter, the library hosted a Grinch party.
Many of the programs in December were sponsored in part from funds received through Communities 4 Children and Community Partnerships for Protecting Children Neighborhood/Community Network mini grants.
Library staff thanked the anonymous bidder on the library table and also thanked all those who made donations to the building fund. Persons who missed donating can contact the library at 515-389-3423.
The next fundraiser will be a spaghetti supper Tuesday, Jan. 21, in the school cafeteria preceding basketball games vs. the Ar-We-Va Rockets.
